By Shruti Tirumala, Caroline Gauss, Lauren Strager and Isabella Spoto
The counterculture era was a time of change in America because people believed in a society based on peace, love, and fairness. However, as a result of this changing time, controversy was inevitably created. Different groups took initiative and began to protest to get these rights enforced and to change America once and for all. However, due to police intervention and the evolving public opinion, these riots created a new generation of change that greatly modified the culture of America forever and fostered an environment that pushed for new values.
Thesis:
The counterculture era in the 1960's greatly served to change American society by introducing new forms of culture and fostering a new set of values and beliefs through many riots, protests, and public demonstrations, seen in the Sunset Strip Curfew Riots, Stonewall Riots, Miss America Protests, and the Berkeley Protests.
